The LAWLEX database has access to the Commonwealth Hansards from 1981 onwards, and the New South Wales Hansards from 1991 onwards.
If you are unsure how to search LAWLEX refer to the StaySmart: Law tutorial. Select the section on Legislation and scroll down to the clip about using LAWLEX to access the full text.
If you need to access NSW Hansards prior to 1991, follow these steps below before going to the Parliament of New South Wales website:
- If you are tracing the history of a piece of legislation, find out the date of assent
- Dates of assent can be found in the Historical Notes under Table of Amending Instruments
- For example, if the date of assent is 7.8.1982, start looking at the electronic Hansards for 1982 and looking at the dates in June or July
It isn’t possible to access Commonwealth Hansards electronically prior to 1991 but it is possible to look at the printed version on the 2nd floor of the Library at 328.9402/1.
