If you don’t know anything about the topic, you could look for a textbook on the subject. Use the Library catalogue and refine your results by: content type, subject terms, and publication date.

If it is a new area of law, start by looking at newspapers in databases such as Factiva or Australia & New Zealand Newsstand.

Then look for commentary in journal articles from:

  • Australia GIS Plus Text or Informit: Australian Public Affairs Full Text
  • International Westlaw, Lexis.com, HeinOnline

To find the Library guide about Law resources go to:

  • Library Homepage > Guides > Law, Humanities & the Arts > Law - Guide > Journals & databases

If you need primary resources, perform subject searches for legislation and case law in:

  • Australia – LAWLEX, LexisNexis AU or Westlaw AU
  • International – Westlaw, Lexis.com, HeinOnline, WorldLII or CommonLII both found in AustLII
‚ÄčIf you are unsure how to search these databases, refer to the StaySmart:Law online tutorial.
