Often these terms are used interchangeably, however, there is a difference.

  • A reference list only contains the resources you have actually referred to or cited in an assignment.
  • A bibliography, on the other hand, can include all the resources consulted for the assignment, but have not necessarily been cited.

Some faculties may require an annotated bibliography as well.
