Q. How can I use the Cite It! tool to add Subject Readings?

Using the Cite It! tool

First, make sure your bookmarks bar is visible from every tab
To check this in Google Chrome: Open a new tab, which by default should show your bookmarks. Then right click the bookmarks bar and make sure ‘show bookmarks bar’ is ticked from the drop down list. The process may be slightly different depending on your browser.

Click your initials at the top right of the Subject Readings screen and select Cite It. A pop up window will appear in the middle of the screen. Click and drag the Cite It button on to your bookmarks bar. Then close the pop up window.

Adding an online resource to your list (1:05)
Find the resource you want to add, such as a YouTube video, and click the Cite It button on your bookmarks bar. A pop up window appears to the right of the YouTube screen with the video’s details. Edit or add details if needed by typing in the relevant fields. You can add a public note in the notes field, which will be visible to students. At the bottom of the pop up window, use the radio buttons to choose to add the item to your list or to ‘My Collection’. Choose ‘add to list’. From the drop down menu choose which list and section to add the resource to, for example, Week 1. Click the ‘add and close’ button. On the subject readings list, the video has appeared in the week 1 section. You can still edit it by clicking the ellipsis to the right and selecting edit item.

Adding an online resource to ‘My Collection’ (2:08)
Open the website you want to add to your list. Click the Cite It button in the bookmarks bar. A pop up window appears to the right of the screen, which has pulled in the metadata from the page. The authors names are missing in the ‘authors’ field, but you can type them into the field. To add the resource to ‘My Collection’, click the My Collection radio button. Add items to your collection if you’re not sure you want to add them to your list yet, but you might in the future. Click the ‘add and close’ button. On the subject readings list, the website hasn’t appeared because it’s still in ‘My Collection’. If you want to add the website to your list in the future, click the add items button > select ‘My Collection’. Then drag and drop the website from My Collection onto your list.
