Q. What is an operating system?

An Operating System (OS) allows interaction between the computer user and computer hardware. It also controls the execution of programs. Its role includes file, memory and process management, handling input and output and controlling devices. There are three main types of operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac and Linux.
