My in-text citations are showing in curly brackets {Smith, 2017 #2}

If you find your bibliography or references are suddenly missing and you see odd symbols such as curly brackets and hashtag numbers, it means your word document is unformatted, however nothing has disappeared.

To fix this, click on "Update Citations and Bibliography" in the EndNote toolbar in Word. 

This will bring back all your formatted references.
