Q. EndNote for Mac download software error

When trying to download EndNote on a Mac, either of the following error messages may appear:

1. "Can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software. This software needs to be updated. Contact the developer for more information.”
2. “Can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer”

The security settings on most macOS may prevent you from installing EndNote, as the default settings do not allow any files to be opened unless they have been downloaded from the App Store.

To bypass the error message press control+click on the EndNote installer icon, choose Open from the menu that appears. The EndNote software will now install.
