EndNote X9.3, X20 and later libraries are not compatible with older versions of EndNote.

On opening your EndNote Library in X9.3 or X20, EndNote will request that you convert your library to the new format. It won't overwrite your original library. Make sure you give this new library a unique, easily identifiable name to avoid confusion.
