Q. What changes are expected to ScienceDirect in 2026?

After extensive negotiations with the world’s four largest scholarly publishers, the Council of Australasian University Librarians (CAUL) has confirmed that it will not enter into a consortium agreement with Elsevier for ScienceDirect journal content in 2026. Despite sustained efforts, the parties were unable to reach agreement on key commercial terms, including pricing transparency, agreement structure, and the inclusion of gold open access publishing. 

As a result, from 2026 onward, access to ScienceDirect content and publishing arrangements may be unavailable via UOW Library.
